The BLIND SQUIRRELS OUT CHART

Getting to an out quickly and hitting it is obviously the way to win `01 matches. Hitting the out is your job, getting you there efficiently is the duty of a successful out chart.

Think of the chart as your map, with yourself as an emergency vehicle. You don't have time for the scenic tour. The life of your game is in the ballance. Not only must you follow the directions, but you must do so automatically so that your concentration remains unbroken and unencumbered.

Before positioning yourself at the line, you should know what you're throwing at (and why) and what to do if, for example, you score a single, having aimed for a triple.

The primary emphasis of the BSOC is on achieving smart doubles (those still leaving an out if your dart goes inside the wire). 32 is the optimum smart out because it progressively breaks down significantly more times than any other number. 32 is the sought for out in nearly one third of the chart's combinations. The principle order of preference targeted in the chart is 32(x16), 16(x8), 40(x20), 24(x12), 36(x18), 8(x4) and so forth.

The majority of these recomendations are universally accepted. Possible exceptions: The 106 option calls for a s6 on the second dart. This is because it is adjacent to the 10. The t19 from 79 allows a one dart fix if a single is hit, as does the t20 from 80. There are instances calling for a sB to get to an out. The rationale is two-fold. A single bull is larger than a triple and, in those specific cases, if missed can be fixed, very likely, with a single of something else.

One must also be aware that three dart combinations are not necessarily translateable when there are only two darts available. Remainders of 70 and 66 are attempted by t20,x15 and t16,x9 respectively, thus leaving the xB as a safety net. The three dart equivalent of that safety option can be recognized in the posted outs from 127, 126 and 121.

Nowhere in the chart will you find a double being required to get to a double. That is because this is a list of smart outs.

To avoid being intimidated by its shear bulk, the chart should be digested in manageable bites (say, 20 numbers at a time). Write them down, analyze each one, make up flash cards, whatever it takes. Nerds find this fun, real people avoid it like the plague. The bottom line remains, however, that complete comprehension of the out strategy is a must for the serious competitor.

A knowledge of the following table is integral to making use of the out chart. It is broader than strictly necessary since it includes cricket related numbers as well.
